  Cashmere sweater vs wool sweater

The cold wave is coming. In order to better survive the winter, cashmere sweaters are popular among consumers because of their excellent thermal insulation characteristics and soft fabric touch.

Knitted garments are knitted with wool and cashmere as raw materials and knitted wool yarn, which are collectively referred to as wool sweaters and cashmere sweaters. But the two are easily confused

  1. Different sources

  Cashmere

Although there is only one word difference between cashmere and wool, they are two varieties.

Cashmere comes from goats. More than half of the cashmere in the world is produced in China, and the best cashmere comes from Inner Mongolia.

Cashmere is light, warm, soft, smooth and waxy. It has a unique natural soft and color. Due to the limitation of origin, the output is very small.

Each cashmere sweater needs at least 5 cashmere to be made, so cashmere has the reputation of "soft gold".

  wool

Wool comes from sheep and is mostly white. It is also an important textile raw material in China.

There are many varieties and specifications of woolen sweaters. According to the raw materials used, they can be divided into pure wool, blended fiber and purified fiber. Because of their moderate price and fast style change, they are deeply welcomed by the majority of consumers.

  2. Different collection methods

In addition to different producing areas, the collection methods of cashmere and wool are also very different.

  wool

The collection of wool is like cutting hair or taking off clothes, shaving all with scissors, and then taking off the whole, also known as shearing wool.

  Cashmere

Cashmere grows at the root of goat coarse hair and falls off naturally.

Herdsmen will use a special iron comb to comb their hair and take it down bit by bit to become raw wool.

Each sheep only has about one kilogram of wool.

  3. Difference analysis

  Different hygroscopicity

The water absorption of cashmere is the strongest among all textile fibers, and the moisture regain is more than 15%.

In terms of moisture absorption, cashmere is also significantly better than wool. Therefore, cashmere will not fade after dyeing, and the color is full. It is also more breathable and comfortable to wear.

  Different warmth retention

The warmth preservation degree of cashmere is 8 times that of wool. The reason is that under the same coverage area, fine cashmere can retain more still air than wool, so it has better warmth preservation.

However, the weight of cashmere only accounts for one-fifth of wool, but it is also more delicate, and its durability will be lower than that of wool products.

  Wrinkle resistance

Wool is a myelinated solid fiber, while cashmere is unmyelinated and hollow, so grasping the double-sided cashmere coat by hand will feel quite elastic. Even if you squeeze hard, the clothes will immediately return to flat and will not wrinkle as soon as you let go.

  Washing shrinkage resistance

Cashmere sweater will not shrink after washing, and cashmere sweater will shrink.

Therefore, cashmere sweater is best to use dry cleaning or hand washing. After dehydration, the cashmere sweater should be tiled on the table covered with towel quilt, sorted into the original shape by hand and dried, and should not be hung for exposure.

  4. How to select

  Marking label - fiber content

In addition to pure cashmere products, the content of cashmere in cashmere blended products should be ≥ 30% in order to be a real cashmere sweater.

  feel

Cashmere like products are smooth but not soft, elastic but not fluffy; Cashmere has good skin affinity and moisture absorption. It feels very comfortable and smooth in contact with the skin.

  smell

After cashmere fiber is obtained from cashmere goats, it goes through a series of spinning, weaving and dyeing process steps, such as impurity removal, carding, strip making, yarn forming, weaving and so on.

In the processing link, sometimes in order to facilitate weaving or consumer care, lubrication or anti pilling and anti-static additives will be added to the manufacturing process. If it is added too much, it will leave peculiar smell on the clothes. Some additives are not conducive to health and environmental protection, while others are prone to color pollution and moth growth during storage.

  Quality grade

The product grade specified in FZ / t73009-2021 cashmere knitwear can be divided into excellent products, first-class products and qualified products.

In addition to some of the high-quality products with higher technical requirements than the first-class products, it is also proposed that for pure cashmere products, the average fineness of cashmere fiber should be ≤ 15.5 μ m. This index requirement plays a decisive role in improving the hand feel of cashmere sweaters.

Consumers who have certain requirements for quality must pay attention to the quality information on the product logo when purchasing cashmere products.

Superior cashmere sweaters are better than other products in fineness, easy pilling and oil content, so their hand feel, wearing comfort and quality are better than other products.
